The Battle of the Blacks!

I’m sick today so thank goodness for a draft post!

So one of my readers requested these ages ago on my formspring for swatches of OPI My Private Jet and Color Club Revvvolution so here they are! Sorry they took so long :/

Individual swatches first…

Photobucket

Even though it is said that Color Club Revvvolution is a black holo… the version that I got wasn’t. It was a flat black with fine silver micro shimmer in it. BORING…. I hate it when companies come up with so many different versions with the same colour because it is so unfair to most of us :( That’s the riskiness of buying online, I thought mine was a holo and I ended up buying a boring black colour which was really mehhhh. Even OPI Black Onyx looks so much sophisticated.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Again… this colour was said to be holo and OPI made a dull and holo version. Obviously I got the dull version but at least this has sparse holo glitter in it! It is definitely lighter than Color Club Revvvolution.

Photobucket

Lastly, here are the comparisons! I don’t think I need to comment further on the colours… both of them are so different but yet similar in some ways (I’m talking about these companies doing different versions of the same product, argh!)

Keep your requests coming! I’ll definitely do comparisons if I have the polishes :)

OPI Be A Dahlia Won’t You V.S. China Glaze 108 Degrees

Hi everyone! So Liz commented on my previous post saying that China Glaze 108 Degrees was a perfect dupe for OPI Be A Dahlia Won’t You and I had to compare them! It didn’t cross my mind that 108 Degrees was so similar to Be A Dahlia Won’t You when I was wearing it!

Photobucket

Spot the difference??

I bet you can’t because I got mixed up too while labeling the polishes. Geez, they look really similar!!!! I did 2 coats here.

Photobucket

TA…DAHHHH!

Both are equally bright and sparkly and the pink was spot-on! Looks like we have dupes!!! But I kinda like OPI better, because of the formula. Its easier to work with than China Glaze because CG’s formula is too thick. I don’t think you really need the other if you’ve already own one of them. :)

Hope this post helps! ^^

OPI Mermaid’s Tears V.S. Orly Ancient Jade

Hey all! I just finished one paper, I have 4 more to go! I may be lacking in updates this week so please bear with me! :>

Anyway, I have another comparison for you guys! I got the whole collection of Orly Precious and a couple of colours are very similar to the ones I have in my stash! I think there’s already alot of comparison swatches for these two floating in the net but I just want to give my two cents worth on these.

Photobucket

OPI Mermaid’s Tears is much more blue, murky and darker compared with Orly Ancient Jade while the latter is leaning more to the minty side and it is a touch brighter. Definitely not dupes but the differences are not noticeable (refer to last picture) unless you look closely (refer to second picture) .

Regarding the formula, I prefer OPI. Reason being, this collection of Orly really made me crazy. No… not the good type of crazy. The formula for Orly’s were really very very thick. I tried to thin them out by using Seche Restore but no matter how many drops I put in and roll them, the consistency is still the same. I hate to say this but, Orly is going to be in my ‘bad book of polish’ (nah, I don’t have this book; it’s more of a mental note) . The formula isn’t right, and the brush is picking up way too much polish. Sigh… I don’t see anyone giving a bad review on Orly but why does formula issues happen to me?? ;(

OPI Chapel Of Love V.S. OPI Elephantastic Pink

Hello, I have another comparison for you guys and this is requested by Tess! :)

Photobucket

The differences of the polishes is really blatant, but in the bottle; they almost look identical! (Except that Chapel Of Love has golden shimmer) OPI Chapel Of Love is a softer, muted pink and leaning towards a peachy pink; very subtle looking with apparent golden shimmers while OPI Elephantastic Pink is more of a bright blue-toned pink. I did 2 coats for both.

Photobucket

Hope this helps! :)

OPI Ogre The Top Blue V.S. Elianto Dodger Blue

Hello :) Today I have for you another comparison! Last weekend I went to a flea at Iluma and picked up a few OPI’s from Smoochiezz/Hazel and Ogre The Top Blue was one of them! When I reached home, I find the shade rather familiar and found out that I have a similar blue in my stash! Swatches are 2 coats with SV top coat.

Photobucket

Photobucket

In terms of colour, Ogre The Top Blue is a little bit darker and muted than Dodger Blue.  In terms of opacity, there is a big difference. OTTB was opaque in one coat whole DB was abit streaky and slightly sheer but with 2 coats, the problem was solved. Even though both of them are not dupes, I think you can do away with the other if you own either one of these. But in my opinion for the price of the polish, I’d recommend Elianto because it is much more affordable and I don’t have any problems with the brand’s polish in terms of application and formula. However, I still prefer OPI because of the Pro-wide brush :)

Let me know if you want more comparisons! ;)

OPI Last Friday Night V.S. Sinful Colors Hottie

I’m having my basic theory evaluation driving test today right after school! I really hope I pass this time!!

Anyway, today I have for you the famous OPI Last Friday Night and Sinful Colors Hottie for comparison! Let’s see whether you can differentiate the two! No scrolling down till you’ve guessed it!

Give up?

Photobucket

Both of them look so similar in the bottle except that OPI Last Friday Night has more hexagon glitters and it’s much more lighter in comparison. Both gives off the lightest blue tint and the formula wasn’t that optimal to work with. They’re so thick to apply, I did 3 coats for both.

Honestly… I suggest getting Hottie because it is so much cheaper! Personally, I don’t like shades like these because they’re too sheer but they’re good for layering. I still don’t get the hype on these type of shades when it was released with the OPI Katy Perry collection! I guess it’s just my preference!

I need to read up on my driving before I go to sleep! Goodnight :)

Misa Summer 2011 Paradise Shore Collection: Swatches, Comparisons & Review

If you’re a Singaporean, you would know that there’s an election and voting is on this coming Saturday! I’m still considered a minor since I’m under 21 but my whole family; Mum, Dad and Bro are able to vote. There’s politics talk in my home for a couple of days by my brother because he is voting for a party different from my parents! And… there’s so many political parties vehicles driving around Singapore, blasting their speeches in different languages. It makes it so hard to enjoy the peace and quiet we used to have! Luckily it will be over next week!

Okay, back to the topic! I know Summer is still months away but I have Misa’s Summer collection to show you all! It’s raining again this morning so I shall apologise if you see any raindrops on my fingers, it wasn’t intentional!

From left: Summer Love, Mermaid Dreams, Mega Margarita and Under My Sunbrella

Misa Paradise Shore collection contains 4 glass-flecked polishes and 2 shimmers. All swatches are 2 coats, with no topcoat. Comparisons are all with China Glaze because CG is the Queen of glass-flecked polishes!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Krystal Water is a light blue and slightly metallic, leaning towards teal with blue shimmer. This one may look very common but surprisingly I have no close blues to compare this to.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Under My Sunbrella is a warm-toned orangey yellow with yellow flecks. I love this one! It doesn’t wash out my skin colour like other yellows do and the application of this yellow is surprisingly awesome too! No streaks, no bald spots! MEGA-PLUS!

Photobucket

I compared Under My Sunbrella against Lighthouse and the latter is so much paler. The only difference is that Lighthouse’s base colour is so much lighter. I’d recommend putting on a creme yellow polish as base and layer Lighthouse so that you can skip buying Under My Sunbrella!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Mega Margarita is an apple green with yellow and green glass flecks. This is my least favourite. It doesn’t really compliment my skintone :( This polish looks really awesome in the bottle because the glass flecks really stand out. How I wish this is not so sheer. But this is good for layering though!

Photobucket

Mega Margarita is compared against Sour Apple. I know that the finishes are completely different,  one being a glass-flecked and one a glitter. But Sour Apple is the closest polish I have compared to Mega Margarita. They definitely belong to the same colour family.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Endless Keys is my favourite from this collection! It is a warm-toned orange with yellow flecks! Definitely eye-catching and a keeper.

Photobucket

Orange Marmalade has smaller yellow glass flecks compared to Endless Keys and it is leaning much more to coral than a true orange.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Summer Love is a glass flecked fushia pink with purple and dark pink shimmer.

Photobucket

Ahoy! is much more darker and the shimmers are less noticeable than Summer Love. But if you already own China Glaze Ahoy!, I’d recommend you skip this polish because they’re really similar.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Mermaid Dreams is a medium purplish blue with shimmer. I don’t know why but this polish bubbles up like crazy! And this polish is much more thicker compared to the rest of the collection. Again… I couldn’t find any similar polish in my stash. I don’t think I own alot of blues.

Overall, it’s a pretty strong summer collection because all the colours of the summer can be found in this collection. However, none of them are unique because China Glaze have done lots of glass-flecked polishes and there are lots of similarities.

Misa’s formula is slightly thick and really creamy but I have no issues with it. I suggest waiting an extra minute for the polish to dry before applying a second coat because that would not cause dragging.

I ordered mine from Transdesign so they’re avaliable online now! Leave a comment and tell me what’s your favourite polish from this collection! :)

MAC Quite Cute Spring 2011 Collection: Nail Lacquers Swatches, Comparisons & Review

Photobucket

I wasn’t even expecting MAC’s Spring 2011 collection at my local MAC counter so early! 3 days ago, I popped by Tangs Plaza and was surprised that the whole collection was on display. So as usual, I got sucked into buying all the nail polishes. Pastels are one of my weakness in nail polishes and since these are limited edition, it was a perfect excuse to buy them!

Photobucket
From left: Ice Cream Cake, Little Girl Type, Mischievous Mint

I was kinda disappointed because this is a Quite Cute collection but the packaging wasn’t cute. I’d treasure my polishes even more if the packaging was even more ‘loud’ like maybe a pastel graffiti design! Anyway… let’s get on to the swatches!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ice Cream Cake is a blue-based pastel pink, my favourite! Very pretty, reminds me of Barbie and cotton candy! The shade is not that unique but I couldn’t find a similar shade in my stash. It is kinda like a cross between OPI Sparrow Me The Drama and OPI Shorts Story.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Little Girl Type is a blue-based pale pastel lavender. I’m not sure what I am going to associate this colour with but… the name of this polish is W.E.I.R.D. Little Girl Type?? What does that even mean? It’ll be creepy if men started saying ‘little girls are my type’ hahaha! OPI Rumples Wigglin’ is pretty similar except that it has a slightly darker tone.
(sorry, typo in the swatch picture!!)

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Mischievous Mint is a pale pastel mint. Again, I can’t think of anything that is cute and minty at the same time… maybe a mint ice cream?? A polish similar to this would be China Glaze Re-fresh Mint but the latter seems to be much lighter in comparison! Mischievous Mint is leaning more to jade green than a minty colour as compared to Re-fresh Mint!

Overall, these shades aren’t that unique but I think Ice Cream Cake deserves the attention in this collection because there is no close dupes! The brushes really suck in all of these, hence the messy swatches! I deeply apologise for that but the brush bristles were at fault too! Some of the bristles are sprayed out in different directions so it was kinda hard to do a decent swatch. The formula of these were alright, very thick, creamy and pigmented. All of my swatches are two coats, no top coat.

I hope this was helpful! :)

(I need to get more polish remover, I’m running out of them yikes!)
