OPI ‘Sheer’ Your Toys

EDIT: THANK YOU ELI FOR POINTING OUT THAT THIS ISN’T OPI BRAND NEW SKATES! I’m such a muddle-head.

Morning!!!! I’m cheerful today because it’s raining outside but I get to snuggle up under my blanket with my collection of soft toys, lol! I am so looking forward to Friday!!!! :)

I’m having a law paper in the afternoon which I’m not so worried about because it’s my favorite module compared to the rest I’m taking this sem *__*

Photobucket

OPI ‘Sheer’ Your Toys is a neutral gray with red specks of shimmer in it. The shimmer was in irregular sizes which was rather odd. Actually, I think the whole concept of this polish is weird. When I think of brand new skates, I don’t think of grey though. (actually maybe?? because of the metal stuff??) and I think the red specks might be the blood caused by falling over too much. Haha, I have an vivid and gross imagination. I’m not good on wheels if that’s what you’re wondering, hahaha! I’m sorry you can’t see the red specks really well… because my camera isn’t good at doing macro functions and whatnot.

Anyway, I also have her sister, OPI You’re A Doll and I’ll have her swatch up soon! These two look almost identical (except for their base colour) due to their random red specks in weird colour combinations.

Sigh, I still cannot find a gray that looks good on my skin tone. I don’t really like this one on me. It kinda pulls off all the yellow tones on my skin. (which may be a good thing on Asians) but when there’s no sunlight hitting on the polish, it makes my hands look old. LOL. I have no idea whether that makes sense or not. :P

Gumdrop Accent For Pink Wednesday!

Hello lovelies! It’s Wednesday again! I can’t believe that time passes by so quickly. I’m currently in the middle of my exam and I have two more papers to go! I seriously cannot wait till Friday!! I’m gonna take out all my nail art tools and accessories and start doing a proper nail art design :)

Anyway, yesterday morning my pet hamster; Random passed away. :( we buried him near a tree beside our house. Sometimes I come home thinking that he will still be there but in actual fact, he isn’t anymore. I am missing him and I miss the times where I shout his name out loud and jolt him from his sleep :’(

Okay, back to polish!! On Wednesdays we wear pink and I picked OPI I’m Indi-A Mood For Love. It does sounds like I’m In A Mood For Love. I love the word pun!!!! Thumbs up for OPI for the wackiest names. I giggled to myself once I figured out the hidden meaning, lol!

Photobucket

OPI I’m Indi-A Mood For Love is a beautiful dark pink with a touch of magenta in it. I love this one. Its looks cool on my skin tone and I really like it!

As the title suggests, I did an gumdrop accent nail on my ring finger with lots of random dots of different colours! They really look like candies and I thought of gumdrops! Okay… now they look more like those Willy Wonka Gobstoppers, haha! I drew a white heart (in case you can’t tell…) and decorated the borders with gold beads. I was debating on whether to choose silver beads or gold ones and I’m glad I went with the gold. Gold complements white much better :D

CND Urban Oasis V.S. Orly Sapphire Silk

Another comparison! I know, I must be on a roll. Hahaha!

Sorry for the lack of updates and for posting 2 comparisons in a row. I woke up at 4.30AM to study for my paper and I’ve officially gone crazy. I need sleep.

Photobucket

CND Urban Oasis is a dark teal creme leaning more towards green while Orly Sapphire Silk is a teal but has more blue in it than green. Again, these aren’t dupes at all. Both colours are really pretty. I think that Urban Oasis will look good on people with darker skin tones and Sapphire Silk on fairer skin tones.

Formula wise, I prefer CND. CND is so underrated!! Lovely formula, lovely bottle. I almost did a one coat on Urban Oasis but I did two anyway because that’s what I always do. And I love CND’s brush. It isn’t as wide as OPI or as thin as China Glaze but its somewhere in the middle. I like that. Again… I don’t think I have to mention again how irritable Orly’s formula is. I just cannot seem to make it work on a full mani. :(

Photobucket

I didn’t have the time to be on my laptop to edit and upload my pics on yesterday’s mani! :( but I promise it will be up very soon! :D

OPI Mermaid’s Tears V.S. Orly Ancient Jade

Hey all! I just finished one paper, I have 4 more to go! I may be lacking in updates this week so please bear with me! :>

Anyway, I have another comparison for you guys! I got the whole collection of Orly Precious and a couple of colours are very similar to the ones I have in my stash! I think there’s already alot of comparison swatches for these two floating in the net but I just want to give my two cents worth on these.

Photobucket

OPI Mermaid’s Tears is much more blue, murky and darker compared with Orly Ancient Jade while the latter is leaning more to the minty side and it is a touch brighter. Definitely not dupes but the differences are not noticeable (refer to last picture) unless you look closely (refer to second picture) .

Regarding the formula, I prefer OPI. Reason being, this collection of Orly really made me crazy. No… not the good type of crazy. The formula for Orly’s were really very very thick. I tried to thin them out by using Seche Restore but no matter how many drops I put in and roll them, the consistency is still the same. I hate to say this but, Orly is going to be in my ‘bad book of polish’ (nah, I don’t have this book; it’s more of a mental note) . The formula isn’t right, and the brush is picking up way too much polish. Sigh… I don’t see anyone giving a bad review on Orly but why does formula issues happen to me?? ;(

Abstract Leopard Nail Design

Hello everyone!!! It’s a rainy day in Singapore this afternoon and luckily I took pics of my mani yesterday where it was bright and sunny, yay!

I have another leopard design again because I think that it is the easiest to do after dots. Haha! Forgive me for the countless leopard designs, unless you can give me an great idea for my next one! ^^

Photobucket

Photobucket

I have a little tip for yellowish finger nails! Because I did a side-swipe on my index, middle and ring fingers, I didn’t want the yellowish tint of my fingernails to show (eek!!). So I did a coat of Seche Rose on my nails and then use Essie Tangerine to do a side-swipe. It definitely helps in hiding the yellowish tint, and giving it a healthy glow! Now nobody will know that you actually have yellow-orangey nails underneath a lovely mani :)

I came across a nail blog (sorry, I’ve forgotten whose is it!) and she described it as ‘a dot within a dot’. I think that was pretty cute! She also included a picture tutorial. I ended up doing the ‘dot within a dot’ design on my pinkie and thumb. A very bizarre combination of leopard prints and abstract nail art but hey, I make it work didn’t it? :P

LOBSTER HANDS ALERT!!!!! LOL. I fail at taking photos of my right hand :/

Anyway, My cuticles look so alive now! I went bareless last night and slapped on lots of Lush Lemony Flutter and pushed my cuticles back and TA-DAHHHHHHH clean and moisturized cuticles! I’m still left with quite alot of that stuff and its expiring this coming December :( how I wish good stuff last forever… hehe!

CND Just Red and Red Sparkle: Swatches & Review

Opps, sorry for reviewing this duo so late! It initially came out this year for Valentine’s! I was rearranging my stash in my Helmer a few days back and I came across these. (omg can you believe that 4 of my drawers are full??!) Funny thing is… I’ve forgotten that I own them but now I do!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Just Red is a blood red polish. Nothing much to say about this one. It’s just a regular red polish that everyone should have in their stash! This bottle came 1/2 full because it leaked while its in the packaging :( I get really upset when my polishes get leaked during shipping because my money is wasted, lol!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Red Sparkle over Just Red. I love the combination! Looks like fiery fire! It sparkles really well too, it’s actually fine red glitter suspended in a clear base.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Now for the formulae, these are simply fantastic. I love CND because of their smooth application and their brushes and I have absolutely no problems with this one. You can get away with 1 coat with Just Red, that’s how opaque this polish is!!

Maybe they shouldn’t have paired red with a red glitter for Valentine’s. It’s too boring. They should have done a pink polish with red and pink glitter, that would be awesome!

China Glaze Life Preserver

Hey guys!!!! So I am supposed to revise now but I just finished doing a law paper so I was like ‘Oh heck, I’m done with revising!’ and decided to change my mani because my previous notd does not seem to go well on what I’m going to wear tonight! As usual I hope you’re not surprised that I change my nail colour as fast as how I would change my clothes hahaha!

Photobucket

I’ve not used this one ever since I got it a few months back but I think this colour is so appropriate for Summer! It should have been in the Island Escape collection instead of Electric Pineapple. (yeah, you heard me. I don’t like Electric Pineapple, lol. More on that when I post the swatch up!) Life Preserver is like a dark, muted burnt orange. A very unique shade and this kinda reminds me of smoked salmon. I’m not a fan of salmon, but I like this colour on me! ;)

Photobucket

Photobucket

Anyway, the formula was so thick!!! I find that the entire collection of Anchors Away was thicker than usual… its like the brush took up way too much polish and when I tried to smoothen it out, it drags the polish away which results in balding. :/ I did 1 medium and 1 thick coat because I simply cannot get away with a thin one! I guess I have to thin this one out too.

OPI Jade Is The New Black + China Glaze Shooting Stars

Its Fridayyyyy!!!! :) Who’s heading down to the mega flea at Expo? You bet I am!! I’m gonna see what new polishes I can pick up, especially from Essie! :D Smoochiezz will be there as well! (that’s the main purpose of me going to this flea, lol)

Photobucket

Photobucket

Today’s feature is… Jade Is The New Black! It is a muted forest grass creme, one of my favourites from the OPI Hongkong collection and also one of my oldest polish in my stash!

I apologize for my untrue pictures. The close up below is much more closer to the polish colour.

Photobucket

And for extra bling, I added 2 coats of China Glaze Shooting Stars on my ring finger as an accent nail! Shooting Stars is a holographic glitter coat with fine silver sparkles and small hexagon pieces. I love how it looks over green and now I can’t wait to layer Shooting Stars over other colours!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Have a great Friday everyone!! Let me know if you’re heading to the flea today… We might actually meet!!! :)

Misa Hot Couture

Hey guys! School tests is just a few days away and yet I’m still blogging… Lol. This goes to show that I love blogging much more than anything else! (but polish is still first! <3)

Photobucket

Miss Hot Couture is a mustard tan creme but with not much yellow in it. It kinda reminds me of OPI San-ton-nio from the Texas collection. Also, I must mention that Hot Couture is a weird name for a neutral, tan, mustardy polish. I mean… when I think of a colour to match Hot Couture, I’d definitely think of a bright hot pink or a coral!

I did 2 coats and the formula was fantastic! I didn’t have any problems whatsoever. The only problem is that SV ate my mani again… Look at the shrinkage at the tip of my middle finger! :(

It’s Friday tomorrow… YIPPEE!!!

Polish Party @ Smoochiezz!: Essie Swatches

Hello everyone! I’ve been getting lots of questions on where I buy my polishes and where’s the best deals in Singapore for polishes and I’m very proud to announce that ever since Smoochiezz imported her polishes from the States, I get most of my polishes from her! ^^

Hazel aka Smoochiezz started off as a spree organiser and currently she has over 60 ongoing sprees at her website! Yep… you name the spree, she has it! Her spree ranges from Taiwan to Korean to UK and the States! That’s really awesome! I am one of her loyal spree-ers because firstly, she never gets my orders wrong and secondly, I always get updated mails on when is my stuff arriving and most importantly, her calculations are always displayed clearly on her excel spreadsheet so you know how much you are actually paying for the shipping charges etc.

Anyway, despite holding over 60+ sprees on her LJ, she has a showroom at Jurong East and it is loaded full with cosmetic goodies, apparels, and nail polishes! She carries lots of famous drugstore brand names from the States which are very difficult to find in Singapore. What’s more, she is selling them at very cheap prices. Brands such as E.L.F, NYX, MAC, Estee Lauder, Coastal Scents etc are currently avaliable in her showroom! :)

But since I’m not a makeup maniac, I always get drawn to her lacquer corner in her showroom! Here’s the list of brands that she currently has… there’s OPI, Essie, China Glaze, Poshe and Seche Vite!

In case you’re interested… here’s the price list!

OPI Cremes – $9
OPI Shimmers/Glitters – $10
OPI Shatters – $10
OPI Nail Envy – $15
OPI Designer Series – $15
China Glaze – $7
China Glaze Crackles – $8
Essie – $9
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat – $10
Seche Vite Clear Base Coat – $8

Alright, enough with the words… let’s get on to the swatches! All swatches are 2 coats with no top coat.

Photobucket

Photobucket

St. Lucia Lilac is a very pale pastel lilac. It is showing up more blue and darker, I apologise for that! My camera doesn’t seemed to be working correctly with the colour spectrum on that day, lol.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Honey Bun is a refreshing shade for me, I’ve never seen anything like this! It looks like a burnt cranberry with lots of golden sparkles!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Pansy is a bright medium blue-toned carnation pink. The first picture is more true to this colour. I think my camera freaked out the second time it sensed the pink… maybe it was too mesmerising, lol!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Tangerine… bright, cherry and coral; what’s not to like?? Obviously this is my favourite from the five, and I absolute love how obnoxiously bright this is. Perfect for summer and for the toes ;)

Photobucket

Photobucket

Aruba Blue. I really have no idea how to describe this colour. Absolutely gorgeous…. my camera really captured this colour well. I love how reflective this polish is!!! This one makes me feel like I’m looking at the naked sky at midnight, reminds me of the times I had during diving :)

Remember me saying that I don’t like Essie before?? After swatching these polishes, I’m glad to say I’m in love with Essie! The formulae was top notch, there was no streaking or bald spots! I think my bottle of Mesmerize is a bad child which made me kinda boycott Essie because of it. :<

Anyway, I suggest you head down to her showroom to view! I promise you that it won’t be a wasted trip! ;) But please bring lots of cash though! They only accept cash! (unless you have your ibanking device, bring it along too!)
